New App Store Category for Your App-etite

Good news for developers of food and drink related apps. On Monday, Apple announced that a new Food and Drink category will be added to the App Store in next few weeks. Currently, users have to scramble through the Lifestyle category of the Apple App Store to find these applications. The thousands of apps for finding restaurants and recipes will automatically be moved to the new category when the switch is made.

As explained by Federico Viticci of MacStories:

“…the new category will include ‘apps that help users cook and bake, mix drinks, manage recipes, find new restaurants and bars, and learn what their friends like to eat and drink’. Food & Drink won’t include diet, grocery shopping, coupon clipping, or food-related game apps.”

App developers whose Food and Drink apps have been buried among the wide range of Lifestyle apps will now have a chance at getting more traction from mobile users.

What does this mean in terms of testing? Load test. During this switch, if your app appears up at the top of the new Food & Drink category, more people are bound to download and navigate it.  Make sure your app can handle peak usage on the client server side (no pun intended).
