The U.S. has been the hub of mobile app usage – but this is no longer the case. The rest of the world is catching up, and there has been a giant shift in international mobile app adoption. According to a study done by mobile analytics company Flurry:
“Compared to recent technologies, smart device adoption is being adopted 10X faster than that of the 80s PC revolution, 2X faster than that of 90s Internet Boom and 3X faster than that of recent social network adoption. Five years into the smart device growth curve, expansion of this new technology is rapidly expanding beyond early adopter markets such as such as North America and Western Europe, creating a true worldwide addressable market.“
China, the UK, South Korea, Japan, Germany, France, Canada, Spain and Brazil all join the US as being the world’s largest app markets. They also show incredible growth from July of 2011 at 27% to July of 2012 at 36%. However, the rest of the world made a big jump too – from 21% in 2011 to 28% in 2012. Flurry’s study says that “in total, 64% of all app session now take place outside of the U.S.”.
